Stock-piling

Just a little food porn to start the day off right. This is Irish Potato casserole.
Irish Potato Casserole It was so scrumptiously delicious!

So, I got to thinking last night. I was walking through the house and stopped to admire the storage of food.
Storage

It made me start to think. Why do I have a complex about having stored food. Now, of course the home canned foods are simply because we grow our own foods and thus I can a lot of food for the winter months. But my pantry is just jammed with purchased foods. I've never gone hungry in my life. There is no reason for me to have any fear of being hungry. Yet I stock pile food. I just really doesn't make sense!

Well, first of all....Unbelievable!

I think our stockpile nature is also the same instinct that sends us to the grocery store for "essentials" when a storm is predicted. Aside from actually being completely OUT of toilet paper, there's probably nothing we really would HAVE to have if snowed in for a day or two.

My pantry looks ridiculous, too. I have fewer home canned things, those are in the freezer, but my stock pile of purchased ingredients is pretty impressive... embarrassingly so.

I spend half my time at the grocery store chanting "the apocalypse is NOT coming" so obviously I have a stockpiling problem too. We could live for months on pasta and dry beans at my house, we might get scurvy but we won't starve.

Really you should have at least a 30 day supply of food. If something should happen, like what happened in Hatai, it takes a while for help. I think it's great that you have a food storage.

The food you put up looks so good!

The casserole looks like A1 comfort food. The pantry is impressive.

I stockpile, too. I have had periods in my past when the cupboards were bare, but I do think my stockpiling has more to do with my emotional needs than any physical ones.

I would LOVE to have your stock pile of the canned foods. Better to be safe then sorry, you never know these days.

That is so neat. I wouldn't have a clue how to can anything.

I stock pile my pantry to. I don't know why I eat like I'm going to be stranded on an island at any moment without food??

This post made my mouth water. As for stored food, that is a great thing. When I was coming up, we got through the winter on stored food. We also had potatoes and onion under the house in a cool, dry, dark space. I thought everyone stored food for the winter. You should be proud of yourself.
